SEC Crypto Task Force Meeting: Acting Chairman Mark Uyeda Talks Bitcoin – CoinAero

Panelist Chris Bummer opened up about the challenges and also the advantages. He said, “What are those particular risks? There’s always some kind of ambiguity, but does the ambiguity level reach a point where it’s no longer manageable? When it does, you have to do a little bit of an assessment about what the risks are and what the opportunities are before thinking creatively about how to deal with it.”

Commissioner Hester Peirce, head of the SEC Crypto Task Force, said, “Spring signifies new beginnings, and we have a restart here, of the Commission’s approach to crypto.”

Commissioner Crenshaw said, “Does the contemplated change protect investors, the capital markets and national security? This is critical given the heighten risks associated with crypto assets, including their speculative nature. If the intention is to create a special rule for crypto assets, how can those assets be clearly defined and differentiated from other types of assets to which those rules are not intended to apply?”

Acting Chairman Mark Uyeda starts the discussion by addressing the challenges faced by digital assets. Says ‘Market participants, academic policymakers and regulators are still grappling with critical questions related to the status of these assets.’
